A Hardy Greeting of Support and Thanks to the Anti-Atom-Radtour Nord!

Greetings, friends! On your stop in Jülich, please accept this statement of support from Savannah River Site Watch, located in Columbia, South Carolina, of your efforts to inform the public about highly radioactive spent fuel at the Forschungszentrum Jülich and to stop its off-site shipment.
Your participation in the Anti-Atom-Radtournot only helps raise public awareness about the risks of nuclear power, nuclear waste and dirty energy but also reflects your commitment to sounder transportation policies and to a safer, greener world.
The work over the last decade of “.ausgestrahlt,” “Stop Westcastor“ and German activists has been instrumental in stopping the shipment of the AVR spent fuel to Ahaus or to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site (SRS) here in South Carolina. Our collaboration has made sure the misguided export plans have been exposed and will continue to be challenged.
A contract exists between the Jülicher Entsorgungsgesellschaft für Nuklearanlagen (JEN) and SRS to continue research into the processing of the highly radioactive AVR graphite fuel balls, an effort that began as early as 2012. That current contract, obtained by SRS Watch – and linked here: https://srswatch.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/2022-02-21-WFO-13-021-Mod-No.-9-received-23-March-2022.pdf – runs until 28 February 2023. This cooperation must end and I encourage you to speak up about that on your trip. SRS must not be a target of the illegal dumping of the AVR spent fuel and we will oppose and resist efforts to do so by politicians, the nuclear industry and those seeking to profit off transport of this deadly material. The agreement between the CDU and Green to build a new on-site storage facility at Jülich must promptly be acted on and you must hold them to it.
As an avid bicyclist, I am with you in spirit and can think of little else better than joining you on your journey.To paraphrase activist Emma Goldman, “If can’t ride a bicycle in the Anti-Atom-Radtour Nord, I don’t want to be part of your revolution!”
May the ride be not only be fun but also inspire you to keep at your work in these troubling times.Your activism and social and political engagement is urgently needed and your commitment is so well reflected by every kilometer you travel.
